Test

It’s another awesome Monday! They just keep coming. Whether you love them or not. 🙂

Which brings me to today’s topic. The test of letting go of control.

You can’t control everything. You can only control your reaction to what happens. Being that you’re here with me, you probably already know that.

But how do you know if you’re really letting go of control and putting your faith into the universe (or whatever faith you have) and not trying to take the reigns of the show?

Letting go is difficult. For the best of us.

Everything you’ve endured up to this point is a test for you to grow so you can take on the next challenge.

There may be something really big around the corner that you wouldn’t have been ready for a year ago. But now you are!

Grab the opportunities you don’t think you’re ready for.

Trust that all the tests you’ve faced have prepared you for this moment. When you let go, you open yourself up to the incredible possibilities the universe has been waiting to give you.

Ok, so let’s talk about how to let go. (Oh man, this is a toughie)

Identify Control Points: Think about areas of your life where you feel the need to control the outcome. Is it your professional life? Is it in your relationships? Ask yourself why you feel the need to control the outcome. And don’t judge yourself about this. You’ll find that a lot of what you do today is because of what happened many yesterdays ago.

Acknowledge Your Fear: Behind control is fear. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of letting your guard down. Think about what’s keeping you from letting go. Again, no judgments.

Practice Trust: Trust that things will unfold as they’re meant to. Trust yourself, trust others, and trust the universe. Letting go doesn’t mean giving up. It means having faith that everything will work out, even if it doesn’t happen the way you thought it would.

Go with the Flow: Give yourself the space to be more flexible and open to change. When you come upon a situation where things don’t go as planned, instead of resisting, adapt. Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?” and “How can I grow through this experience?”

Observe the Outcomes: As you practice letting go, take notice of how things evolve. You’ll be surprised to find that situations often resolve themselves, and sometimes even better than you had planned. This is the universe’s way of showing you that it has your back. Trust the process.

Everything in your life is a test. A test by who? Who knows.

But remember that every little thing you do, even in the most mundane things, is shaping you to be the person you’re meant to be. The person who is ready for that next big project at work, the next hobby you’ve been scared to try, or break dancing in the Olympics. I guess that’s a thing now. 🙂

You’re ready!

Action Step

This week I want you to challenge yourself to let go of one small aspect of your life you’ve been holding tightly to. It can be small. The point here is to practice letting go.

1- Write it Down: Commit yourself to this one thing, not being your thing. It’s no longer your responsibility. Is it a chore chart? Or maybe a project at work that people keep piling on you. The world will not fall apart if you let go of this one small thing.

2- Set an Intention: Next to your one small thing, write down your intention that you will trust the process. For example, “I release the need to control the outcome and trust that everything will unfold perfectly.”

3- Delegate: What’s one thing you can get off your plate that will move things in the right direction? Delegating isn’t skirting your responsibilities, it’s trusting someone else to help you get the rest done. Delegation is a skill, and you’ll learn it by letting go of the little things.

This week will be a test. Everything you do will be testing you for tomorrow. With gratitude for what you’ve been handed, it’s a test you’ll pass every time.

You’re an A+ in my book,
